Symptom

The Skype for Business client tells about the precense information of an user that it is away "Inactive - mobile". Even when the user is logged out of all devices.

Devices: IPHONE

Explanation

By default,if the user didn't sign out the Skype for Business mobile client it will switch to run on the background and change status to "inactive", and after some while(maybe an hour or more) it will sign out automatically.

On iPhone and iPad, Skype for Business signs out automatically if the user has not used the application for a period of time, as follows:

  • Skype for Business signs out after 1 day. Skype for Business sends a push notification indicating that the user must sign back in.

On Android and Nokia (Symbian), Skype for Business remains signed in as long as the application can contact the server. Contact with the server occurs automatically every 5 minutes, even if Skype for Business is in the background or the device is locked.

Solution

Make sure all your devices are signed out. Check the user Devices and registrations overview in the portal for any device registrations. If there is no logout recorded on an device, logout this device.

If Skype for Business is running in the background on these phones, users will receive push notifications as long as the session expiration interval has not expired. The mobile device must send a notice to the server indicating that the device is still active before the session timeout is reached. If it does not, the device will be listed as inactive and the user will have to log back on to the system. On iPhone and Windows mobile this happens after 1 day. On Android this happens after 1 hour.

Otherwise

  • Wait till device times out. Can be around 10 days on certain mobiles.

The status "inactive-mobile' mean that you have signed in your Skype for Business account on mobile devices. Once you’re signed in, you remain signed in as long as there is connectivity. If you’re not actively using the app on your mobile device or on your computer, your status shows as Inactive. If you have connectivity but haven’t used the app for 10 days, you’re signed out. So, even you uninstalled the Skype for Business app form your Android Phone(iPhone or iPad), this status "inactive-mobile" will remain in a period of time, please wait for some time. Or you can sign in your Skype for Business account on Skype for Business desktop client to try to cover this status..
